Two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signs on
their IPL 2017 journey with a big victory against the hosts Gujarat Lions (GL)
at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Rajkot) on Friday night.
After winning the toss, KKR decided to bowl first. Gujarat
Lions put 183/4 on the board at the end of 20 overs.
In reply, KKR chased down that total very easily, as they
successfully hunted down that target in just 14.5 overs without losing any
wicket. KKR won their first match of IPL 2017 by 10 wickets.

partnership for GL. The previous record was 85 runs partnership for the GL’s

second highest total. Their highest total is 196/7 (20 overs) against RPS
(Rising Pune Supergiants) at Pune on 29th April 2016.
KKR opener Chris Lynn completed his maiden half-century in
just 19 balls. It is the joint second fastest half-century by a KKR batsman.
Previously, another KKR batsman Andre Russell had also once completed his
half-century in the same no. of balls against KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) at Kolkata
on 9th May 2015. However, the record holder is Yusuf Pathan, who had once completed his half-century in
just 15 balls (also fastest half-century in IPL history) against Sunrisers
Hyderabad at Kolkata on 24th May 2014.
KKR batsman Gautam Gambhir completed his 3,000 runs as an
IPL captain. Gambhir became the second IPL captain to score 3,000 runs. MS
Dhoni was the first IPL skipper to achieve this feat.
KKR opening batsmen Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn put an
extraordinary unbeaten 184-runs partnership for their opening wicket. Here are
some stats of this unforgettable partnership:
i) It is the highest opening partnership in IPL history. The
previous record was 167 runs partnership between Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne
Dilshan (Royal Challengers Bangalore) against PW (Pune Warriors) at Bengaluru
on 23rd April 2013.
ii) It is KKR’s highest runs partnership for any wicket.
Their previous highest partnership was 153* between Robin Uthappa and Manish
Pandey for the 3rd wicket against Dolphins at Hyderabad (Deccan) on 29th
September 2014.
iii) It is the 6th highest runs partnership for any wicket
in IPL history.
iv) Also, it is the 18th 150+ partnership in IPL history.
KKR opening batsman Chris Lynn played an impressive knock of
unbeaten 93 runs. It is the third highest individual score by a KKR batsman.
The top two in this list are 158* by Brendon McCullum (against Royal
Challengers Bangalore at Bangalore on 18th April 2008) and 94 by Manish Pandey
(against Kings XI Punjab at Bengaluru on 1st June 2014).
KKR won this match by 10 wickets. It was their first time
10-wicket victory. Also, it is the 9th time in IPL history when a team won a
match by 10 wickets.
KKR chased down the target of 184 runs successfully without
losing any wicket. It is the highest runs chased by a team in IPL history
without losing any wicket. The previous record was chasing 163 runs by Mumbai
Indians (163/0 in 18 overs) against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on 20th May
2012.
Suresh Raina becomes the highest runs scorer in IPL history
after surpassing Virat Kohli (4,110 runs). At the end of the match, Raina has
scored total 4,166 runs in his IPL career.
